Biography of Nola Boice: Songwriter, Power Vocalist and Keyboard Player
Nola started singing with the family group "The Singing Browns" at the age of eight. They sang at various county fairs, talent shows and public events. Nola knew she wanted to play the piano while attending grade school. Nola would play the school piano at recess and started making up songs to sing. She bought her first piano at the age of 10 by picking beans at the local bean patch. Nola saved $100.00 and bought her first piano from a neighbor. Nola sang in the school choir, performed with the "Top Sixteen" singers and was in the Oregon State Choir for several years. She spent her spare time listening to and singing along with Kate Smith, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin records. After high school,
Nola traveled for several years on the West Coast performing in lounge circuits and eventually landed back in Sedona, AZ, where she was the vocalist and keyboardist for several bands. Nola spent several years honing her song writing skills, teaching lessons, and performing at special events. Nola's song "Ships In The Ocean" was used in a video and was nominated for a journalist award. The video was aired in the Seattle, Washington area. Nola brings her special brand of song writing skills, power vocals and keyboards to the creation of the band "Icelick" where she shines as the lead vocalist and as she puts it "This is exactly where I am supposed to be and when I sing, write or play the music, it's my soul that I reveal."
